About the organisation

To nurture the child with autism so that he/she attains his/her true potential and leads an independent and meaningful life.

Chrysalis was started with 6 children and 6 staff on the 11th of June 2007 by Roshinipriya Charitable Trust to render services for children with Autism. Today, we have completed over 10 years, where we have constantly imparted, learned, unlearned and relearned for the betterment of the lives of children with Autism.

Today, even though there is no community linked prevalence data about Autism spectrum disorder in India, it is a known fact that awareness in certain pockets in India has improved but not all children receive the services they need and proper diagnosis remains a challenge still.

Chrysalis have nurtured to adopt an infancy to young adulthood approach for every individual and look at improving their quality of living considering all relevant needs. Sensitization, mainstreaming and overcoming attitudinal barriers remain a need in today’s trend too.

To meet the growing need over the years, we have nurtured to cater to multiple disabilities. Today, we have children / young adults with different types of disabilities and widened our services from not only catering to improving ADL, academics, communication, sensory needs, sports, but also functional academics, economic independence and improved knowledge among families and communities.

Chrysalis Moments

As teachers, our best moments are when we see evident improvements in the behavioural aspects and their ADLS. There were times when active participation in sports has left us and the viewers in awe.

One of the evergreen memories is when a child who went to another school for a dance competition, just went straight ahead, picked up the microphone from the hands of the then Chief guest, the famous Carnatic musician Mr. Unnikrishnan and started singing….this moment left the entire audience overwhelmed.

Did you know about the Dark room? Oh not the simple hide-and-seek game……it is part of the sensory integration therapy. Fun moments are exploring different colours of light………wow!!! Child improvement is the joyful experience for us.

Every special school dreams of mainstreaming their students …. and yes we have had …… such proud moments. Our students are in mainstream schools now!

Who does not love to chit chat with your friends? And so Sakthi is no exception. The moment when non-verbal Sakthi started communication verbally with his peers and sharing his feelings is one of the most unforgettable one and a moment of joy. Consistent intervention @ Chrysalis made THIS happen.

Small changes creates a huge impact. Well, Naveen and Simon are living examples. Naveen, 13 years old, used to undress publicly, scream and cry loudly, but after regular intervention @ Chrysalis, he is like any one of us! Simon, 10 years old, unknowingly used to hurt others by poking eyes, spitting on other face etc., but our intervention has helped to change this behaviour and reduce the incidences

What more than learning a new skill can give content? Nithish is 18 years and with 2 years of pre-vocational skill training to weave, now he is mastering the art of following verbal prompts to weave beautiful mats.

Did we tell you this? Our singing bird of the centre is Aniruth….and he loves to reply impromptu through songs which brings a big smile on everyone’s face.

Even though winning competitions is not what we ensure…but only participation….though we should mention that every year Chrysalis students win prizes in the Javate, inter school competition for children with special needs and yes…we are proud that students are ready to take challenges always!
